Our small pepper popper bases will accept both the AR400 and AR500 small steel alloy plates. Both classic and mini (2/3 sized pepper poppers) IPSC targets can be bolted to the base plate.
We protect the hinge and adjusting bolt with a V shaped deflector. The deflector will divert a full house .44 Magnum  projectile.
The base is usable without installing the legs. We provide the legs in case the terrain won't let the base be stable.
We build our own hinges to reduce the slop commonly found in other bases. Reset and trip points will remain constant. The base material weight and leg sockets help prevent plate/base scooting.
We strongly urge that the pad that accepts the falling plate be kept free of debris. Stones or other hard substances will cut or compress the pad material when the target is driven down.

This base also uses our own hinges to insure that plate returns to a vertical position and the reset and trip points remain constant. The target weight and angle iron cross braces prevent plate/base scooting.
We strongly urge that the pad that accepts the falling plate be kept free of debris. The pad is elevated from the base rails to permit stacking of the plates.

All stems are 3.0" short of their listed length to compensate for the base and plate clamping devices. The material for the stems is  1 1/2"x 1 1/2" x 1/4" angle iron. A plate attaches to the stem (select either end ) with a stem Clamp or Mount. The stem is held by the Universal Base clamp. All but the 55" and 56" stems are used for the American Speed Plate system. Their named lengths will place the center of the target to that height off the ground.  The Steel Challenge rules specify that all round targets shall be 5' (60") to their top as shot by a transit from the shooting box. Rectangular targets shall be 5' 6" (66") to their tops.
  The following stem table:
         Stem                 Target
           54"                  18 x 24"
           54"                  12"
           55"                  10"
           56"                    8"
will  place the top of the specified targets  to the height required by the Steel Challenge rules.

We will cut stems to any length you desire.

We also offer Accessories to convert static plates into  reactive targets.

The Universal Base  is used to support and clamp a target stem.   The removable legs permits sliding up to 3  base plates on to one pair of legs. A three base set up would permit the use of three different stems lengths for a staircase target array. The bases can also be nested, because the legs will fit under other base plates. The number of different arrays are limited by the quantity of bases available. We  create over 78 different arrays with 5 bases. (See the ASP system for more details.) The optional stick holders, add the capability to use the bases as a very stable paper target holder. Misses on the metal target in front will poke holes in cardboard fastened to the 1 x 2" furring strips located behind the plate.

A Clamp tool/Spring Compression gauge is recommend with every initial Universal Base order. The Clamp Tool and Gauge is used with the Universal Base Stem Holder assembly to open the clamp for stem insertion. The center of the tool is a gauge, machined to the correct dimension, for adjusting the Stem Holder spring tension. The spring will lose its rated tension if it is set too tight and targets will not stay vertical if too loose. Re-adjusting the spring tension is only required if the spring retaining nut is inadvertently messed with.
